About Sheephaven Hutchworks
I started this small business sort of by accident. One day I realized I had more fiber than I could possibly
spin up in a lifetime. At about the same time it struck me that my rabbit breeding had been spectacularly
successful -- so successful that the cages were covering the walls and reaching the ceiling of my workshop,
and had started to spill out into the chicken coop.
It was time to find someone who could use some of the fiber. It was also time to cut back on production.
That meant laying off some of my
fiber workers,
but of course I couldn't just turn them out to fend for themselves.
So I started going to fiber fairs and festivals, offering fiber and angora rabbits for sale. I didn't really intend
for it to be a business. I just wanted to find homes for some excess fiber and rabbits. But I discovered that
I needed an Ohio vendor's license. Once I had the license and was collecting and paying sales tax, I had
a business, almost in spite of myself.
Even though I've since managed to find new fiber-producing jobs for some of my rabbits, I still
hire breed more from time to time. If you're looking for gorgeous angora rabbits, and you live
close enough to Akron, Ohio that we can arrange transportation,
email me
-- I might have one or more hard-working fiber producers for you. And I always have
angora fiber
to offer to handspinners who want to spin the softest, warmest yarn they've ever made.
